PORTSIDE STUDIOS

IMG_20201217_121811.jpg

Portside Studios is a place   where you can learn new skills,   get involved in interesting   projects and develop ideas of   your own. A mixture of   woodwork, metal fabrication   and a range of art disciplines   creates a rich mix of creative   opportunities.

Portside

Our home is an old boat yard by the shipping canal in Portslade. The workshop and art room are non judgemental places where you can find complete beginners and competent professionals working  hand in hand to create all manner of creative wonderments.

At 'Portside' we have the necessary mixture of resources, space and enthusiasm to bring ideas to life. Constantly evolving to meet the needs of the organisation and our participants we have equipment to work over a variety of creative disciplines.

We welcome people here who have had varied backgrounds but are all in need of a level of consistent support and access to opportunities to learn and work towards greater level of independence.

Space to grow

We established Portside in 2018 with the intention of creating a communal space that would be used for people to work creatively together. What we didn't realise at the time was how much the place would mean to people and how much of a community that would create there.

What Portside is now is more than a place to make, but also somewhere to meet people who care about what you want to do and are willing to help you get there.

To help you realise your ambitions we know that we need to space and time to develop them. We'll help grow your ideas, your confidence, your capability and your resilience.

It’s important for my planned work to have internet access, I’ve also got a business mentor here and I’m doing a qualification in business enterprise.

 CREATIVE RELEASE

At MIO we encourage participants to explore of artistic disciplines and to take creative risks in a non judgemental environment.

We don't believe in creating 'good' or 'bad' art but are more concerned with the effect of art on the individual who makes it and the person who perceives it.

 A SOCIAL SPACE

Whether a quiet chat or a heated discussion, there is always a good level of debate and good humoured discussion to be found at Portside.

We know a lot of our participants  particularly value this social aspect of the studio environment and have made lasting friendships from their time working with Making It Out

'The art room is a space that can ignite dormant creativity or help & support those with more certain artistic ideas.  Creative knowledge is shared but there is also tutoring in basic art techniques. All are welcome & our workshop doors are adorned with a range of extraordinary work completed by our clients.'
